The routes manager

Summary:

The routes manager or assistant operations manager is responsible for the management and general supervision of drivers, covering recruitment, training and assessment.

Interview :
“At Visual, the key fact is that we essentially operate occasional transport on a local to international level. My work primarily involves putting together the schedules for our drivers and allocating services to our drivers with the appropriate vehicle to meet customer requirements. Then along comes a day when I have to be reactive in order to cope with all the problems they may encounter in their daily work, maybe a collision or an accident. Then a last-minute request might come in from our customers for an extra coach, an extended service, possible delay on airport arrivals etc. So for me,  my job is actually to get the right coach to the right place at the right time.”

The routes manager also supervises the technical quality of the service such as keeping to timetables and designated stops, or problems linked to vandalism and safety. In association with the Planning and Schedules Department, he puts forward changes to timetables and routes and implements chosen initiatives.
